Seabrook Wines

Seabrook’s wine story is over 140 years old. It all began in 1878 when William Seabrook (W.J.) established a wine merchant business in Melbourne, W.J. Seabrook & Son. The narrative has evolved over the years, and today the Seabrook label is Hamish and Jo’s family vigneron brand, with Hamish the first winemaker in a long line of merchants. He is fifth generation Seabrook, and evident in his wines is knowledge learned from his forebears. Early in Hamish's Career one of the most significant workplace was ‘Best’s’ in Great Western. Here he was taken under the wing of wine industry legend Viv Thomson, where he established his winemaking style. Hamish makes genuine small-batch wines he loves to drink. He is passionate about reflecting the place in which they come from, and he has a hands-on approach to the family’s 20-acre estate. Producing premium Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon & Mataro from the white clay & sandy loam vineyards in the Eastern Foothills of the Barossa Valley

NON-VINTAGE

Variety

Pinot Grigio

The 2024 Adelaide Hills Pinot Grigio has lovely aromas of fresh-cut pears and peaches accented by soft citrus blossom notes. The palate is bursting with juicy nashi pear, honeydew melon and lemon sherbet flavours beautifully balanced with bright crunchy acidity. Below-average winter rainfall, followed by a warm and dry spring, provided the perfect stage for a great vintage. A hot dry December and then cooler temperatures in the new year with rainfall around veraison in late January/early February. This brought relief to our early-ripening varieties that were beginning to show signs of stress and rapid ripening. The result was excellent conditions for natural acid retention and clean fruit. This was followed by further rainfall in early March, which eased the stress on the late-ripening varieties, allowing them to mature towards a predicted earlier harvest due to an early Easter. Overall harvest, was characterised by average yields but very high quality. The Pinot Grigio is grown on a single vineyard site in the Gumeracha region of the Adelaide Hills. Being the more northern part of the Hills, temperatures are mildly warmer. The vines are planted in shallow loam over rock and granular soils. The vine age is near 20 years and they are spur pruned on single cordon arm. The aspect is fairly flat and even although surrounded by hills. In drier years this vineyard gets severely frosted.
